I have a few suggestions on how to improve the game.
First of all, I would like to mention that there are a lot of different aspects of the game that I really enjoy. I like how the players can open a headquarters and hire people to help manage different aspects of a large company. I also like how there is a way to manage things centrally rather than having to go to each store or city to manage everything. But one thing I want to mention is that the player can’t manage salaries centrally at the HQ. I think this can be easily fixed since a player can already open a Human Resources floor at their HQ. There should be an additional section or tab at that floor where you can manage the salaries of store managers and floor workers. There you should also be able to see different things such as the cost of living in each city, and what the minimum wage is in that city. Speaking of Human Resources, the employees should be able to form unions and go on strike to demand better pay and or benefits.
Additionally, I think shares should grant shareholders power. In real life, you do get a lot of power if you control the majority of shares. The game should allow the player to buy shares, and through those shares, exert control over the company. If they don’t have majority control of a company, they should be able to reach out to other investors to work together to change the company. For example, the shareholders can elect a board of directors. They should also be able to influence the company by making proposals for changes within the company(e.g. new products, appointment of CEO, and marketing). The shareholders should be entitled to see the company’s financial reports and board meeting minutes.
Another aspect of the game that I would like to see changed is the buying and selling of property. I like the current system where a player or his/her company can buy and sell properties. But they have to lease buildings for their stores and headquarters. There should be a way for the player to buy storefronts and their headquarters directly instead of just leasing them. I think it would be wise to introduce some sort of mortgage system with the banks so that this can happen more easily. Speaking of properties, the way to make money on properties is to rent them out. I think there should be a more detailed report that shows who the tenants are in each building and how much space they occupy within the building. There should also be an option where the landlord should be able to redesign a building which they own.
The game should design a court system. This way, a company can sue another company for things like monopolizing the market in a certain city. This way, the government can also sue a certain company or hold a company accountable through the judicial system. If the player dislikes a certain decision, they can appeal to a Supreme Court.
The designers should also include a more sophisticated political system. Currently, the only governments in the game are city governments. The only way for the players to influence the government is through lobbying efforts. I think this is a good starting point. But to make the game more realistic, there should be several layers of government. I envision two layers of government, a federal government and the city government. The Federal Government is responsible for setting corporate, income tax, and capital gains tax rates. In addition, the federal government can create laws regulating monopolies, mergers, and fraud. Meanwhile the city government can impose various excise(eg. Sugar, Sales etc) and property taxes. The city has powers over things like business licenses, property laws, zoning requirements, and gender equity. There can be powers that both types of government hold, like the ability to propose a minimum wage law and other labor laws. The executive authority within that jurisdiction can sign or veto laws, make policy proposals, issue executive directives, appoint top bureaucrats, and appoint justices to courts that are under their jurisdiction. Meanwhile the legislature are the ones which can initiate changes in tax rates, and pass other laws.
Also, I think the player's character should have a lot more individual autonomy. I like the fact that the game provides a way for the character to buy and sell shares in addition to buying and selling property. But first, I would like to see the character be able to ‘resign’ his post as CEO of the coffee company. I say this because currently the players character and their company is inseparable. This way, the character is more free to explore other parts of the game world. There can also be a small social aspect to the game. The game should allow for some sort of interaction between different CEO’s and wealthy elites in the game. Also,the character should be able to have a family life, which also obviously incurs extra costs and an additional social aspect. Additionally, I think a fun addition to the game would allow the character to visit a competitor's store and actually be able to buy something. It would be interesting for the character to be able to make these smaller scale purchases such as buying a coffee, buying food, even paying for maintenance on their house , and paying bills or buying furniture for their house. There should also be a recreational aspect. The player should be able to visit a park or visit the beach etc. The player should also be able to run for office such as a city council member, mayor, federal legislature, and federal President. This way, the player can directly impact policy decisions and even propose new policy decisions that would presumably be in line with their own personal and business interests. The player should also be able to donate to a certain political party that aligns with their views, or create a new party that does. I mention this because I think there are a lot of different aspects of life to juggle when you are running a company. Especially during the early days of the company, you have to sacrifice your financial security, time, and energy so that your company might succeed.
The game should also have a more detailed supply chain system. There are a lot of places where a company can source its material. For coffee, a company needs coffee beans, cups, and various materials to make food items. I like how the game does include different coffee bean houses where the company can buy coffee beans, but to add a layer of realism, I think the player should be able to see where these are sourced from. The game could also use a few extra cities in places like the Caribbean, South America, and Africa where coffee beans are grown so the player can actually see and interact with the people who actually grow the beans(and presumably other materials) that are used in their company. It can be in these new cities where players can buy land to grow their coffee beans or interact with plantation owners who do and negotiate some sort of contract with them for their products. Further on this point, the player can choose how and where they would want to package these things, or if they want to contract that out to another company. In this way, the player can see and interact with supply chain logistics, and have to deal with shipping all the materials from one place to another.
I think the above mentioned suggestions can really further a player's understanding of how corporations operate and the psychology of wealthy people.
